Weirdo Wednesday: W.S. Burroughs’ Short Story “The Junky’s Christmas” Aint Your Typical Tale
Rounding out our ode to Christmas on a decidedly depressing (yet oddly heartwarming) note, on this Christmas Eve we’re showcasing the stop-motion animated adaptation of W.S. Burroughs’ short story “The Junky’s Christmas”. In the Francis Ford Coppola-produced film, we follow a heroin junky named Danny as he navigates a dreary Christmas day looking for his next fix, only to reveal the actual depth of his selflessness and humanity despite his desperate physical state. Far from your typical Christmas tale, it nonetheless manages to capture perhaps the true meaning of Christmas in its own distinctly bleak, gritty way. Behold:
