Tuesday’s Gone: Grateful Dead Close Out Winterland 12/31/78
Continuing our spotlight on infamous New Year’s Eve gigs from yesteryear, for today’s Tuesday’s Gone, we’re serving up the Grateful Dead’s classic 1978 performance that effectively closed out the illustrious Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. After rousing opening sets from the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Blues Brothers, the Dead didn’t even hit the stage until midnight, and proceeded to deliver an epic marathon performance that lasted until sunup the next day. Checkout the opening sequence to that legendary night below, which includes fittingly fantastic renditions of “Sugar Magnolia”, “Scarlet Begonias” and “Fire On The Mountain”.
