Bonnaroo SuperJam: Strangest Trio Ever
Bonnaroo organizers just announced the members of the famed SuperJam, and like the city of Springfield, it’s all over the map. This, from Superfly:
Bonnaroo continues an annual tradition with an all-star SuperJam, starting at midnight on Friday, June 15. Former Led Zeppelin bass player JOHN PAUL JONES will anchor a trio featuring one of music’s most innovative modern bluesmen, guitar wizard BEN HARPER, and Roots drummer AHMIR “?UESTLOVE” THOMPSON. The SuperJam is one of the most highly anticipated features of the festival, combining the talents of a diverse set of musicians for a one-time-only collaborative performance. Past participants have included Stewart Copeland, Herbie Hancock, Dr. John, Trey Anastasio, and many other musicians of the highest caliber – and if history is any indication, expect special guests to join the fun.
John Paul Jones, Ben Harper and ?uestlove may be the weirdest collaboration yet, but this speaks to the true eclecticism of the festival this year. We’d hesitate to call Ben Harper a “guitar wizard,” but these are the days of mighty fluff.

If I were picking my own SuperJam of the artists that are confirmed at the festival, I’d have to go with a dual kit of Stewart Copeland and Stanton Moore, Jack White on lead, Bobby Weir on rhythm, Ornette Coleman on sax, Lily Allen on vox, John Medeski on organ, TLG’s Trevor Garrod on keyboard, and Ween’s Dave Dreiwitz on bass. Oh, and me on the triangle. Given this year’s stellar lineup, what’s your perfect SuperJam for the 2007 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival?
