30 Years Ago Today – AC/DC Released Rick Rubin Produced ‘Ballbreaker’ Album
30 years ago today (9/25/95), AC/DC released their 13th album, Ballbreaker. The album marked the return of drummer Phil Rudd, who last played with the band on 1983’s Flick of the Switch.. Ballbreaker also saw the band work with Rick Rubin, who had long wanted to produce them. Rubin’s minimalist philosophy pushed them back toward the no-frills, blues-based crunch of their early days. The result was an album that sounds more direct, less layered, and very in the moment. Watch AC/DC with their classic lineup of Angus, Malcolm, Cliff, Brian, and Phil perform the seldom played “Hail Caesar” live from Ballbreaker in July 1996.
