30 Years Ago Today- Alice in Chains Release Self-Titled Third Full Length & Last Studio Album With Layne Staley
30 years ago today (10/31/95), Alice in Chains released their self-titled 1995 album — often called Tripod because of its bizarre three-legged dog cover, and their last studio album with vocalist Layne Staley. This was their third studio album, following the brutal heaviness of Dirt (1992) and the dark acoustic introspection of the Jar of Flies EP (1994). The self-titled album lands somewhere between those two extremes: sludgy, grunge-metal riffs paired with bleak, introspective lyrics and eerie harmonies between Staley and guitarist Jerry Cantrell.
