30 years ago today (9/19/95), The Flaming Lips released their seventh studio album Clouds Taste MetallicThe album captures the band in a transitional state: still rooted in noisy, psychedelic, guitar-driven rock, but also edging toward the more elaborate, conceptual, and melodic directions they’d pursue on The Soft Bulletin (1999) and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (2002).
