50 Years Ago Today- Paul McCartney & Wings Begin Historic 13 Month World Tour
50 years ago today (9/9/75), Paul McCartney & Wings began their historic 13-month world tour. US performances will be recorded as the double LP Wings Over America. The group plays to over two million fans total during the course of the tour. The tour began in the UK and Australia in late 1975. These shows were a warm-up for the huge world trek to follow in 1976. The concerts showcased Wings’ growing catalog—songs from Band on the Run (1973), Venus and Mars (1975), and older material from Red Rose Speedway and Wild Life. Unlike his early solo years, McCartney also dipped slightly into Beatles territory, performing “Lady Madonna,” “The Long and Winding Road,” and “Yesterday.” Watch Paul McCartney & Wings Live from London 1975…
